It was slow, but fair, until the end. I'm not a fan of mysteries that rely on confession to reach the conclusion. And the plot line about budget shortfalls just sort of evaporated. The writing was good, but the story was about half baked. I am very, very fond of the Dorothy Martin series; she's living the life I wish I could have! Dorothy is an American living in England, a widow remarried to a retired Chief Constable. She's not a spring chicken any more, has knee replacements, appreciates a nap, and doesn't like dealing with roundabouts. And she's good at solving mysteries. In this book, she's investigating the death of an obnoxious artist in a university art college.The Dorothy Martin books really are gentle mysteries. I found them first in my local library, and promptly went out and bought the whole series in hardback, because these are characters I really like, in a setting I really enjoy. I hope there are many, many more for Dorothy and her Alan.
